The Motor Racing Checklist 2.0 Review

After completing The Motor Racing Checklist 1.0 and 2.0 I have decided to take the next step into my sim racing journey. As an affiliate partner of Suellio’s sim racing courses I booked a 1-on-1 session with Suellio himself a while ago. After absorbing hours and hours of video footage it was time for the big test. We took the Dallara F3 on Sebring and I went out the pits to do a couple of laps. After already 3 laps Suellio noticed some of my bad habits: ‘understeer-snap-oversteer’ as he calls this technique in his course. I was driving way too aggressive on the front tires, therefore I turned in too early creating understeer into the first phase of the corner. Mid-corner I tried to overcompensate this behavior creating a massive oversteer in to the third fase of the corner. This causes me to overheat my tires a lot and loosing a lot of time.

I was completely blown away. I am doing sim racing for around 18 years and Suellio identified my bad habits within a couple of laps! After years of struggling and not knowing where to find the extra couple of tenths on track I finally know where to improve. Improving my driving style on this bad habit in combination with the light-hands technique made me fast faster after a couple of laps already. I was feeling way more relaxed in the car and I had ’time-left’ in my head to drive the perfect line and hitting the apex perfectly. After a couple of laps I improved my lap time with around -0.8! That is amazing!

Of course it takes time to readapt this new driving style, but this has already made me a better racing driver. I will definitely do some 1-on-1 coaching in the future again. It was worth every penny. I do realize now how important it is to invest in sim racing technique rather then in sim racing hardware only. Better hardware doesn’t make you a faster driver, coaching and driving technique does. I highly recommend the course, but also the 1-on-1 session with Suellio.
