In the world of sim racing, precision during braking is essential and a key component to achieve this precision is, of course, good sim racing pedals. Hoan from VNM Simulation provided me with a set of their new VNM Lite Pedals sent to test and reviewen extensively. And for that, I am truly grateful! I was privileged to test and review these pedals extensively and completely impartially.

These pedals particularly stand out for their impressive 200 kg load cell brake. In this article, I am happy to share my experiences and discover how the VNM Lite Pedals compare in a competitive world with a wide range of offerings. Let's dig deeper into it!

VNM Simulation

VNM Simulation is a relatively young manufacturer of sim racing hardware from Vietnam. What sets VNM Simulation apart is their attention to detail and innovative approach to creating great sim racing accessories such as the VNM Steering Wheel, the VNM Motion System and the VNM Handbrake. They have built a strong reputation in the sim racing world in a short time, and they have achieved this through their focus on quality and innovation. VNM Simulation have become a reliable choice for sim racers looking for high-quality sim racing hardware.

VNM Lite Pedals Packaging & Contents

Upon opening the VNM Lite Pedals, you immediately notice that they are packed in a simple but super careful box. The pedals were well protected from any damage in transit, which is really important. I had secretly hoped for a more detailed and eye-catching packaging, as you see with the Conspit CPP Lite Pedals. Then again, it is ultimately about the quality and ease of use of the pedals, so that packaging is not the most important thing. But of course, a more beautifully designed packaging can make a strong first impression. However, I do understand that cost-saving is probably the priority.

You'll find this in the box of the VNM Lite Pedals:

  • The brake pedal with load cell
  • The accelerator
  • The clutch pedal
  • The controller box
  • A set of Allen spanners
  • Additional springs and elastomers
  • A USB cable
  • Fastening materials, such as bolts and screws.

Price of the VNM Lite Pedals

The price of the VNM Lite Pedals is remarkably attractive. For this complete three-piece pedal set, you pay $370, excluding shipping and VAT. For this price, you receive high-quality pedals. Frankly, this is an extremely competitive price for a set of this quality. What makes it even more interesting is that the VNM Lite Pedals are slightly cheaper than their bigger brother, the VNM Pedals V1, which are priced at $550 (also excluding VAT and shipping) on VNM Simulation's official website. This makes the VNM Lite Pedals not only accessible to serious sim racers, but also attractive to those looking for quality without breaking the bank.

Design of the VNM Lite Pedals

The design of the VNM Lite Pedals is really insane. The pedals are all black, which I personally find super bold and stylish. They really exude power and are just breathtakingly beautiful. They have clearly put a lot of thought into the aesthetics of these pedals. Not only do the VNM Lite Pedals look tough and sturdy, they are also pleasing to the eye. The overall design contributes to the overall appeal of this pedal set.

Robust metal construction

The solid metal construction of the VNM Lite Pedals attracts immediate attention. They are made of a combination of powder-coated steel and anodised aluminium. These materials not only guarantee long-lasting durability, but also add a tough look to the pedals.

VNM Lite Pedals: Attention to Details

Upon opening and unpacking the VNM Lite Pedals, it was immediately clear that these pedals have a lot of potential. The specifications and solid build quality were convincing. But it is only when you actually use them that you realise the true power of these pedals.

Smooth pedal operation

What really sets these pedals apart is the use of ball bearings for all moving parts. This choice results in incredibly smooth pedal operation, a feature crucial for precision and consistency in the world of sim racing.

Fully customisable

A remarkable feature of the VNM Lite Pedals is their full customisability. You have the ability to adjust the position and height of the pedals to your preference, allowing you to find the ideal position to suit your individual playing style. Whether you enjoy fast races or long endurance races, these pedals allow you to personalise your playing experience like never before. Long-lasting playing comfort and optimal control are essential, and these pedals offer both in abundance.

Advanced Sensor Technology & Impressive 200kg Load Cell

These pedals are unique because of the use of non-contact angle sensors for both the accelerator and clutch pedals. This makes them extremely precise and they last longer because there is no weartage. The brake pedal is also excellent, with a load cell of as much as 200kg. This provides a realistic braking experience in terms of power and feel. Do you need such a strong load cell? No. In all honesty, a 100 or 150kg load cell would be more than enough.

Robust controller box

The attention to detail is also reflected in the sturdy controller box where you connect the pedals and the USB cable. Made of high-quality materials, this box exudes quality and durability. It immediately gives you the feeling that you are dealing with top-quality pedals - and it really is. The advanced control software lets you easily calibrate, set deadzones and adjust travel curves, allowing you to perfectly tune the pedals to your preferences and the specific requirements of your racing simulations.

Easy Installation and Montage of the VNM Lite Pedals

Installing and securing the VNM Lite Pedals is very easy. With just four screws, you can easily attach the pedals to your simulator. The only drawback I encountered was that the screws and bolts provided were not suitable for montage on my Sim Lab Pedal Slider. A minor setback, but fortunately I had enough fasteners at home to solve it without any problems.

Connecting the pedals to the included controller box went smoothly and was very easy to do. It's nice that the controller box comes loose, so you have the freedom to mount it wherever you want.

VNM Simulation Software

Before we start testing the pedals extensively, it is necessary to perform calibration and the free software download. It is vital to install the right drivers and firmware and calibrate the pedals for the best racing experience. The software is quite simple, but fulfils its function exactly and meets expectations. You can select different presets, adjust deadzones and calibrate the pedals to your needs.

User experience

Over the past few weeks, I have been thoroughly testing the VNM Lite Pedals with various popular sim racing games, and my user experience has been very positive. These pedals offer unprecedented precision and responsiveness, bringing any virtual race to life. Whether it's dosing throttle and braking in a tight turn or feeling in full control at high speeds, the VNM Lite Pedals do not disappoint.

When switching to the VNM Lite Pedals, you soon notice that it takes some getting used to this new set of pedals and adjusting them to your personal preference, as with any new pedal set. Especially with the impressive 200 kg load cell pedal, I noticed that I subconsciously set my braking point too early and had to apply too much force. This took some time and confidence to get used to, but once I found the right adjustment, I quickly became familiar and could even shift my braking point. The pedals are extremely sturdy and reliable, making the overall riding experience extremely enjoyable. They are robust and durable and the pedal pads feel extremely comfortable and ergonomic. Personally, I really like the fact that they are wider, an aspect I missed in the CPP Lite Pedals that I also tested recently.

In the standard configuration, the pedals are adjusted quite lightly, which is not ideal for everyone. Personally, I prefer more stiffness and resistance in the pedal, so there is less slack. Fortunately, this can be easily adjusted by turning the resistance knobs, and I made this adjustment on all three pedals. VNM offers enough customisation options to configure the pedals to your liking. In the coming weeks, I will also use the extra springs and elastomer to further optimise the brake pedal.

The pedals feel very refined and comfortable, despite their solid and robust construction. With the spacious footplates, pressure is evenly distributed across the bottom of your foot, providing ultimate comfort. The accelerator pedal performs excellently and offers accurate feedback. Both the back pressure and the end stop feel very solid. As for the clutch pedal, I haven't used it much so far, but in the default settings you notice that the pedal doesn't really spring back when you release it. Increasing the spring resistance has reduced this problem somewhat, but unfortunately not yet completely solved.

The user-friendliness of these pedals and the quick familiarity with them are remarkable. This sense of confidence is essential, not only for improving lap times, but also for more consistency on the track. Compared to my familiar Heusinkveld Sprint Pedals, which I had been racing with for several years, the VNM Lite Pedals are definitely not inferior. In fact, I am so satisfied and impressed with these new pedals that I will continue to use them as my primary pedals. And that only makes me all the more curious about how good the VNM Pedals are.

So are there any downsides or peculiarities to mention? Definitely, although I must admit that I really had to search for this. One small point I noticed is the scuffing and squeaking noise sometimes caused by the accelerator pedal's spring or end stop. Fortunately, this is less distracting when racing with a headset.
