KW Studios has another shot in the arm with the Q2 2025 update of RaceRoom. With the addition of two iconic Super Touring Cars - the Alfa Romeo 156 and Opel Vectra - and the rare street circuit Alemannenring, RaceRoom shows why it is still one of the most underrated sim racing games out there.

As a fan of classic touring cars and realistic sim experience, I can say with certainty: this is a fantastic update. RaceRoom has developed into a hidden gem within the sim racing world in recent years. Its unique content offering - from DTM to hillclimb and now this Super Touring expansion - makes it a game that deserves more attention than it gets.

Two new legends: Alfa Romeo 156 and Opel Vectra

RaceRoom's Q2 2025 update is not just about a nostalgic street circuit, but mainly about the addition of two icons from the Super Touring era. Below, we dive deeper into these new cars that will make any touring car enthusiast's heart beat faster.

Alfa Romeo 156

The Alfa Romeo 156 was a dominant force in the Super Touring championship in the 1990s. With its sharp handling, Italian flair and aggressive performance, it became a crowd favourite. RaceRoom manages to bring this model to life with impressive detail. Every track feels like a relived BTCC classic. The handling is lively, with a subtle oversteer characteristic that rewards experienced drivers but does not immediately punish beginners either. The engine sound, the dashboard and even the seating position add to the illusion of being in a real racing car.

Opel Vectra

The Opel Vectra adds German precision and stability. This car also has a rich history in the Super Touring era, with robust performance and a recognisable design. Where the Alfa invites attack, the Vectra is instead more balanced - the perfect weapon for those looking for consistent lap times and control. Together with the already available BMW E36, Audi A4 Quattro, Honda Accord and Volvo's 850 and S40, this now forms an impressive Super Touring field which is unique in sim racing. No other sim offers such a complete period view of this class.

Alemannenring: German street circuit nostalgia

The addition of the Alexander Ring is perhaps most surprising. This industrial street circuit in Singen was only briefly active in the 1990s, but is now being digitally revived. It is a short, technical track with many 90-degree turns and a sharp hairpin. Perfect for close racing with Super Touring cars. The layout is reminiscent of Norisring or Macau, but with its own character enhanced by the industrial setting and unique flow.

That RaceRoom takes the trouble to bring back precisely these kinds of 'forgotten' tracks shows vision and love for motorsport history. Where other sims limit themselves to the well-known names, KW Studios digs deeper and brings out circuits that may be less well-known, but all the more interesting to drive. And that is exactly why I appreciate this sim so much.

I cannot imagine any other sim in which you will find this unique combination of cars and circuits. The atmosphere on these kinds of street circuits is different from what modern tracks offer - raw, compact, and delightfully old-school. This is where touring car racing comes into its own.

What else is in the update?

In addition to the new content, the Q2 2025 update also includes:

• Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 added to GTR 3 class
• New liveries for the Huracán
• Improved AI at Avus, Monza and Brands Hatch GP, among others
• Fixes for the Audi V8 DTM and Ferrari 488 GT3, among others
• Physics updates for Formula RaceRoom 90 and X-22

Conclusion: underrated, but rock solid

RaceRoom may not be the most talked about title in the sim racing community, but it is one of the most complete, versatile and authentic. In my opinion, this game deserves much more recognition than it is currently getting. Every update shows dedication, passion for motorsport and attention to detail, and this Q2 2025 release is another good example of that. What always appeals to me personally about RaceRoom is how faithful it remains to motorsport history, while continuing to innovate in terms of driving feel, sound experience and content selection.

This update highlights exactly why I appreciate this simulator so much: unique and rare content you won't find anywhere else, strong physics that really convince while driving, and a huge love for motorsport history that is palpable in everything from interface to (sublime) sound. Even the AI is consistently improved, adding to the fun during offline races. Now let's hope for a better crash model, flags and a day and night cycle with rain!

For fans of classic touring cars, this update is undoubtedly a must-have. And for anyone who hasn't tried RaceRoom yet: give it a chance and dive into this rich and varied world. You will be pleasantly surprised by how good, distinctive and immersive this simulator is and realise why this game is one of the better sim racing games is. It is a tribute to motorsport, wrapped in an accessible and realistic sim experience.
